Is it true that the number of children in a Mormon family determines which heaven they will go to?No, there is no required number to have. They are taught that all men and women are "literally the sons and daughters of Diety," the "offspring of celestial parentage." (Bruce McConkie, Mormon Docctrine, p.598) According to tenth LDS president Joseph F. Smith we should "thank the Lord, when we pray, for Adam. If it had not been for Adam, I would not be here; you would not be here; we would be waiting in the heavens as spirits pleading for somebody... to pass through a certain condition that brought upon us mortality." (Joseph F. Smith, Search These Commandments: Melchizedek Priesthood Personal Study Guide, Salt Lake City: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1984, p.237) This is the reason for the large families in Mormonism. The only way they can progress to be a god or goddess is to have a physical body (Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 3:22-26). This does create a psychological problem for many women if they have difficulty getting pregnant. They usually equate this to not living up to the standards of the LDS gospel.
