BASIC TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS CONCERNING THE NATURE OF GOD/CHRIST

Mormonism teaches that the Bible is "the word of God as far as it is translated correctly" (Article of Faith No. 8) and Joseph Smith taught that the Book of Mormon is the "fullness of the everlasting gospel"(Doctrine & Covenants 27:5; 135:3) and an addition and supplement to the Bible. To support the following statements, find the references in the Bible and the Book of Mormon and enter them in the blanks below.

1. The Mormon Priesthood is the only authority God recognizes and is necessary for salvation.
2. Temple Marriage For Eternity is necessary for exaltation to godhood.
3. Baptism For The Dead is required to save the dead.
4. God was once a man on another planet who progressed to become god of this world.
5. This god has a body of flesh and bones and is not a spirit.
6. This god was selected by a council of gods and did not create man, heaven or earth.
7. This god had a father, who had a father, etc.
8. This god is married to many wives and has millions of children.
9. Each individual has the potential to progress to become a god/godess of their own world.
10. This god is eternally progressing and learning new things each day to become a better god.
11. Jesus was not born of a virgin because Mary was married to god before she married Joseph.
12. Jesus is the brother of Lucifer.
13. Jesus is also progressing and someday he too, may become a god of his own planet.
14. Jesus is also married to several women and has many children.
15. The blood of Christ is not sufficient for the forgiveness of several sins.

THE WAY TO A NEW LIFE IN JESUS CHRIST

The salvation offered to mankind through Jesus Christ, is received through faith in Him (Romans 1:16, Acts 16:30-31). This is not something we can earn or deserve, but is made available to us through the love and grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 3:6-11). Our only hope is to recognize that we are sinners, and that through His perfect life, death for our sins and resurrection in power, Jesus Christ came to be our means of salvation. We are saved by putting faith in Jesus alone.

In the New Testament we learn that early believers expressed their faith in Jesus by first being repentant (Acts 2:38 and 26:20), in a desire to change their life and habits to be pleasing to God. They expressed their faith in words of open confession (Romans 10:10 and Matthew 10:32-33) before both other believers and then the world. Very quickly they also expressed faith in baptism (Acts 2:41, 8:36-39 and 16:31-34) which was their demonstration of a pledge of allegiance and loyalty to Jesus (I Peter 3:21 ).

Jesus said, "I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE; no man cometh unto the Father but by me " (John 14 :6) . If we continue in His Word, we truly are His disciples and we shall know the truth and the truth shall make us free (John 8:31-32). We sincerely urge you not to trust your eternal salvation to the teachings of Mormonism nor even to anything you see printed here, but to ask God to reveal His TRUTH to you prayerfully searching the Bible.
