Does the Preexistence Exist?

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that every person experiences a series of "births." All were born as spirit children of God in a premortal life." (Encyclopedia of Mormonism, volume 1, "Agency")

But does the Bible teach this? Many Mormons use Jeremiah 1:5 to prove it does. However, this verse actually refers to God knowing of Jeremiah before being born, not Jeremiah knowing God. Since God is omniscient (all-knowing), He obviously knew Jeremiah before his birth.

Zechariah 12:1 also tells us that God "formeth the spirit of man within him." This verse would not be true if our spirits were formed in a premortal existence.

In Genesis 2:7 we see that Adam became a living spirit only after God breathed the breath of life into him. Paul also makes it clear in Galatians 3:26 that we are "children of God by faith in Christ Jesus" and not a premortal "birth."

Contrary to the LDS teaching, the Bible is clear that mankind did not exist with God in a premortal state.
