The following are helpful instructions to expedite the process for having
your name(s) removed from the member- ship records of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints.
1. One copy each of your exit letter should be sent by U.S.P.S.
Certified mail, with a Return Receipt Requested, addressed to:
A. President Gordon B. Hinkley (or the current Mormon prophet)
50 East North Temple
Salt Lake City, UT 84150
B. The home address of the Bishop of the last Ward you attended. Your
records SHOULD be at the last Ward you attended. (Consult the Yellow
Pages to obtain the name and home address of the Bishop.)
2. There are six points that should be in your letter (be kind
and courteous, but firm):
A. Specifically ask that your name(s) be removed from the membership
records of the LDS church. Include your birthplace and date-of-birth
to prevent any unnecessary delay.
B. State that Joseph Smith was a false prophet and that the Mormon
church is not Christian. Elaborate on this as much as you want and use
biblical scriptures.
C. Make a strong statement for Jesus Christ being the Lord of your
life and for the Bible being the only Word of God. You may elaborate
on this, also.
D. State that you have no intentions of attending any Bishop's court,
because you are not guilty of anything and you don't recognize them
as having any authority over you. State that their letter back to you
is to contain NO mention of ex-communication because this is your decision,
not theirs.
E. State that 45 days from the time that you sent your letter to them,
is a reasonable length of time to expect them to send their letter to
you, confirming your name(s) has been removed from LDS church records.
State your intention to take legal action and to contact the media if
your conditions are not met. This will further prevent any unnecessary
delay, since they do not want to go to court over this, nor do they
want public attention and scrutiny.
F. State that you expect them to respect your right to privacy by
NOT sending anyone to your residence; nor writing, e-mailing or calling,
in an attempt to change your mind, because you are firmly committed
to this decision. State that you are well aware of what they believe
are the eternal consequences of your decision.
3. If, after 45 days have expired, you have not received the
confirmation letter, contact Concerned Christians with the name and
phone number of the Bishop you sent your letter to, and we will contact
him on your behalf to resolve the delay.
May God bless you and give you strength as you take this stand for our
one, true and biblical Lord Jesus Christ.
