Tonya's TestimonyMy name is Tonya and I was a Mormon my entire life until I gave my life over to God. I would like to share my story with you. I was raised in the Mormon Church and throughout my childhood and teenage years their teachings were hand fed to me. I took them in like the rest of my family. My father was a powerful and respected man of the Mormon Church. He ruled our family with the "priesthood." His abuse to my mother, sisters, and I was a secret to everyone, until my older sister told her boyfriend. One thing led to another and my dad was arrested and excommunicated. Living in a single parent household, my sisters and I became incredibly strong in the Mormon Church. For the first time, I needed to find my own testimony of the truth, so I went looking. When I got into high school and started in the seminary program, my study of the Bible became more intense. I found numerous scriptures in the Bible that didn't fit with what I had been taught in the Mormon Church. The verse that caught my attention the most was John 3:16, which reads: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." There were many other questions I had concerning the Book of Mormon and the many inconsistent teachings that constantly change depending on who was prophet at the time. To the people of the Mormon Church I was the perfect example, Perfect Laurel President, and perfectly fit to be married in the temple. Inside I was dealing with millions of doubts. I was a senior in high school and really had no idea who God was and what my beliefs were. It was at this time as well that I fell in love with a Christian boy that I went to school with. With the love and support of him and his amazing family, within 6 months after graduation I had confronted my doubts, found the truth, and asked the Lord into my heart. I have been delivered from the mouth of the fowler by Jesus Christ. I am grateful for his sacrifice. I denounced the Mormon Church and have successfully removed my name from the record of the church. I am happy to report that Ryan (the Christian boy) and I are getting married July 13th 2002. My life is free and I am covered by the blood of Jesus!!! I want to share my story with those who need it. God Bless! |
